Turkiye’s chili pepper exports increased by approximately 18% compared to the previous year in 2023, reaching $12 million 226 thousand.

According to the information compiled by the AA correspondent from the Southeastern Anatolia Exporters’ Association (GAIB) data, chili pepper exports worth $10 million 367 thousand were made from Turkiye in 2022. In 2023, exports exceeded the previous year’s figures by 17.96%, reaching $12 million 226 thousand.

In 2023, 3 thousand 544 tons of red pepper flakes were sold in 99 countries, including Germany, England, France, Norway, Hungary, Senegal, Greece, Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Malta, Russia, the USA and Italy.

Last year, the country that exported the most chili peppers was Germany with $2 million 118 thousand. This country was followed by the Netherlands with $1 million 502 thousand and the United Kingdom with $1 million 413 thousand.

“We hope that export figures will increase in 2024”

Sanliurfa Commodity Exchange Assembly President Isa Kizildemir stated to the AA correspondent that it is pleasing for both producers and exporters that chili pepper exports, which have increased from previous years, will close the year 2023 with an increase.

Kizildemir stated that despite the earthquake and flood disasters last year, the farmers of the region continued to produce with all their might, and that this situation was reflected in the export figures.

Kizildemir pointed out that the chili pepper market is increasing every year and said:

“Chili peppers produced in Turkiye have started to take part in more world cuisines with each passing year. Export figures continue to increase every year, and in 2023, our export figures have increased significantly compared to the previous year. This situation is welcomed by everyone, especially the producers from Sanliurfa when it comes to pain. I believe that we hope that export figures will increase in 2024 along with the search for new markets. This year, pepper planting areas increased in our region. Hopefully, the amount of production that will increase with the support of our farmers planting pepper, as in other agricultural products, will be reflected well in the export figures.”
