Housing sales in Bodrum increased by 83 percent after the Covid-19 pandemic

Interest in holiday resorts, coastal areas and summer resorts increased throughout Turkey after the coronavirus. Aegean region took the lead among the most preferred regions.

The citizens who spent the quarantine process in crowded cities particularly increased interest in summer houses and low-rise, detached garden houses. This interest stimulated housing sales in Bodrum, which is one of the most preferred cities by holidaymakers and those who want to buy a summer house.

In the first 8 months, the housing sales number in Bodrum is increased by 34.33 percent and from 2 thousand 930 to 3 thousand 936 compared to the same period of last year.

However, this figure was much higher in the post-pandemic normalization period. In June- August period, 2 thousand 232 houses were sold in the district; this number increased by 83.1 percent compared to the same period of 2019.

“The prices increased since the demand was high.”

Serkan Ceylan the general secretary of Bodrum Promotion Foundation (BOTAV), said that after the pandemic, people were looking for calm, reliable and high-quality places, and Bodrum was one of these places.

Stating that people are caught unprepared for processes such as curfew and quarantine, and they are very bored in these periods in crowded cities, Ceylan said:

“In case of a second curfew or quarantine, they want to spend these processes in their summer houses. Therefore, people’s interest in Bodrum has increased and there is a serious demand for summer houses. Due to high demand, housing sales have doubled in our district recently. Since the demand was high prices increased by up to 30 percent.

People do not leave Bodrum due to the prolongation of the season and schools not opening. 400 thousand people currently live in our district, whose winter population is around 200 thousand. Citizens are making renovations to use their summer houses in winter.”

“Sales have multiplied.”

The chairman of Mesa, Erhan Boysanoglu stated that the interest in detached houses with gardens has increased due to the pandemic, and that the sales of apartments in low-rise buildings have accelerated in metropolitan cities. He said:

‘’ The sales have multiplied recently. People like the atmosphere of Bodrum, they want to live here. We have implemented the Mesa Bodrum project, which consists of detached villas among pine and olive trees in a very special area at Bodrum.

There are 244 housings in the project, 48 of them are villas and the others are residences, and their sizes vary between 95 and 890 square meters.’’

“Projects reflecting the local architecture should be implemented.”

Mehmet Okay, the board chairman of Ant Construction stated that the interest in houses with terraces or gardens increased, and that the houses in such projects were sold faster after the pandemic. He said:

‘’ The interest in the housings of Aspat Anthaven 1st Stage, which we completed this summer in Bodrum, has therefore increased. The percentage of sales that was 50 percent in 2018-2019 reached 90 percent in 4 months after the pandemic. People started to live in the project in June and there are 162 housings.

It is an undeniable fact that Bodrum has become one of the world-renowned brands. In addition to the architecture that reflects the region, it is necessary to raise the bar with such concept projects that will meet all the needs of those who want to stay and live in here. Thus, it should be aimed to contribute to the economic development and promotion of Bodrum.”
