PRAGUE / ISTANBUL – Hyundai Motor Company has rolled its 5 millionth vehicle off the production line at its Nosovice plant in the Czech Republic, while also announcing a €250 million investment for the production of the IONIQ 3 model at its İzmit facility in Türkiye.
According to a company statement, Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Czech (HMMC) reached the milestone at its Nosovice factory, with the 5 millionth vehicle being a Hyundai Tucson Hybrid. The vehicle was delivered directly from the factory to a Czech customer.
The customer had the opportunity to participate in parts of the assembly process, including steering wheel installation and placement of the Hyundai logo, and received a symbolic key from company executives following the completion of production.
Backbone of Czech Production
Production at the Czech plant is primarily driven by the Hyundai Tucson and Hyundai i30 models. Between 2015 and 2020, more than 1.1 million units of the third-generation Tucson were produced, and together with the current generation, the model accounts for nearly half of the plant’s total output.
The i30, produced since 2008, has exceeded 1.5 million units and has been exported to more than 90 countries worldwide, including Türkiye. While the majority of production serves the European market, vehicles are also delivered to customers in the Middle East, Africa, Oceania and Latin America.
Since 2020, the factory has produced over 650,000 electric vehicles, including nearly 200,000 units of various versions of the fully electric Hyundai Kona Electric, helping meet European demand. Kona Electric is also the first fully electric model to be mass-produced in the Czech Republic.
The plant’s former manual transmission production area has been converted into a Battery System Assembly (BSA) facility operated by Hyundai Mobis, operating at full capacity since August last year. Hyundai plans to introduce five new models in Europe within 18 months as it aims to expand its market share in the region.
€250 Million Electrification Investment in İzmit
Hyundai has invested €250 million in its İzmit production facility in Türkiye for the Hyundai IONIQ 3 model. The investment covers a redesigned electric vehicle (EV) body platform, high-voltage battery integration and power electronics systems.
Hyundai Motor Türkiye plans to roll the IONIQ 3 off the production line in August this year, with the majority of production targeted for export to more than 40 countries.
The İzmit plant will become the first production center in Europe for the IONIQ model family and is currently the only factory in Europe equipped with the E-GMP platform. The brand is also set to introduce its second locally produced electric model in Türkiye and plans further investments in both its Czech and İzmit facilities in the coming years as part of its expansion strategy.
