IC İçtaş İnşaat has signed an additional contract for an ongoing railway modernization project in Romania, bringing the company’s total project portfolio in the country to €880 million, the company announced.
According to the statement, IC İçtaş İnşaat, which assumed construction of Lot 4 of the Craiova–Caransebeș railway line in June, has now also signed a contract for the construction of Lot 6 of the same line. The project is considered critical to Romania’s integration into the European Union transport network.
Through these projects, IC İçtaş İnşaat continues to play a key role in the modernization of the Eastern Mediterranean Corridor, which is part of the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T) and is overseen by Romania’s National Railway Company (CFR SA).
By winning the second tender under the Craiova–Caransebeș modernization project, the company aims to contribute to the development of a modern, safe, and efficient railway infrastructure in Romania, supporting sustainable transportation and strengthening the country’s integration with the EU transport system.
With the signing of the €420 million contract for Lot 6, IC İçtaş İnşaat increased its total project portfolio in Romania to €880 million, further strengthening its position in the European infrastructure market.
The Lot 6 section, valued at €420 million, covers the rehabilitation of a 37-kilometer railway line extending south from the city of Caransebeș in southwestern Romania. The project will be carried out in partnership with local company Rotary and will have a total duration of 75 months, including 12 months of design, 60 months of construction, and 3 months of commissioning, followed by a 10-year warranty period.
Under the EPC (Engineering, Procurement and Construction) model, IC İçtaş İnşaat will be responsible for all works, including design, construction, electrical and mechanical systems, and signaling.
The scope of the project also includes the construction of two new tunnels measuring 550 meters and 305 meters, the rehabilitation of two existing tunnels, the renewal of 19 bridges with spans ranging from one to three sections, three underpasses, various culverts, and the modernization of seven stations.
Commenting on the development, İbrahim Dönmez, General Manager of IC İçtaş İnşaat, said that infrastructure projects in the 21st century have become strategic investments that connect countries, support economic development, and lay the foundation for a sustainable future.
“Successfully undertaking both Lot 4 and Lot 6 of the same line in Romania and increasing our portfolio to €880 million is a strong indication of IC İçtaş İnşaat’s international capabilities and the trust placed in Turkish engineering,” Dönmez said. “With our innovative solutions, strong technical capacity, and quality-driven approach, we will continue to add value to the modernization of Europe’s transport infrastructure and fulfill our responsibilities on this strategic route to the highest standards.”
