IMF Forecasts Türkiye’s Economy to Grow 2.7% in 2024 and 3.2% in 2026 Amid Policy Shifts

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has projected that Türkiye’s GDP growth rate will slow to 2.7% in 2024 but is expected to rise to 3.2% by 2026 due to recent transformations in monetary policy. The projections were outlined in the IMF’s Spring 2025 World Economic Outlook Report.

In the report, the IMF reiterated its previous forecast from October 2024 that Türkiye’s economy would grow by 2.7% this year. In a January 2025 interim report, the IMF had slightly revised this forecast downward to 2.6%. Additionally, the IMF increased its inflation forecast for 2024 from 33.0% to 35.9%, while setting the 2026 inflation estimate at 22.8%.

The IMF also revised Türkiye’s 2025 current account deficit forecast, improving it from -2.1% of GDP to -1.2%, with the same level expected in 2026. The unemployment rate is now projected to fall from 9.9% to 9.4% in 2024, and further down to 9.2% in 2025.
