Thai Airways made its first flight to Istanbul Airport

Thailand’s national airline, Thai Airways, made its first flight to Istanbul Airport.

According to the statement made by Istanbul Airport operator IGA, with Thai Airways, the number of airline companies hosted by Istanbul Airport increased to 99.

Thai Airways, based at Bangkok Suvarnabhumi International Airport, organizes direct flights to Istanbul Airport with 321-seat, 2-class A350-900 type aircraft. Flight number TG900, which took off from Bangkok, the capital of Thailand, at 23.45 on December 1, arrived in Istanbul at 06.05 today.

Thai Airways, which started its operations in 1960, is among the founding members of the global airline association Star Alliance. Thai Airways, which has the largest fleet in Thailand, provides a comprehensive connection between Europe and Asia Pacific, North Asia, Southeast Asia and Australia through its hub in Bangkok. While Thai Airways’ daily direct flights from Bangkok to Istanbul contribute to the tourism of the two countries, the potential of Istanbul Airport to become a “global transfer center” is increasing day by day.

IGA Deputy Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Selahattin Bilgen, whose views were included in the statement, stated that they aim to start working with 100 airline companies by the end of 2023, dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Republic of Turkiye.

Reminding that Thai Airways is the 99th airline hosted by Istanbul Airport, Bilgen said, “We are happy to host Thai Airways, a Star Alliance member, at Istanbul Airport. In addition, Thai Airways passengers will be able to easily travel to Europe and Africa thanks to Turkish Airlines’ extensive network. With Thai Aiways joining us, we aim for our airport to host more flights from Thailand, South Asia and Australia.”
