In the Turkish automobile market, SUV body sales increased by 15.14% in the 11 months of this year compared to the same period of 2021, while the share of SUV in sales increased to 41.3%.
SUV (Sport Utility Vehicle) cars, which can be used in different terrain conditions as well as asphalt, offer a wide range of driving conditions.
These cars, which have a large cabin and luggage volume, are also frequently preferred by crowded families.
The use of SUV cars in the city is also becoming a trend. Especially high ground and “muscular” SUVs, which are the favorite of car lovers, started to be preferred more by female drivers.
SUV preference increases as Togg’s sale approaches
The SUV, the segment model of Turkiye’s Car Togg, which is expected to go on sale at the end of March next year, continues to increase its weight in the Turkish automobile market. While this situation was also reflected in the sales, the sedan body type preference lagged behind the SUV body type.
According to the data compiled from the Automotive Distributors and Mobility Association (ODMD), the most preferred body type in the Turkish automobile market in the January-November period was SUVs with a 41.3% share and 208 thousand 693 units.
SUV cars were followed by sedans with a 37.2% share and 188 thousand 244 sales, and hatchback cars with a 19.7% share and 99 thousand 816 sales. Other sales consisted of “MPV, CDV, sport and station wagon” body types.
Compared to January-November 2021, the share of sedans decreased from 39.4% to 37.2%, while the share of SUVs increased from 35% to 41.3%. In the said period, SUV car sales increased by 15.4%.
The share of hatchback cars also decreased from 23.7% to 19.7%.
On the other hand, Turkiye s Car Togg will go on sale for the first time with the C-SUV model at the end of March 2023. Togg is expected to further increase the weight of the SUV in the Turkish automobile market.
