Iraq has introduced a new electronic visa system for investors and businesspeople from Türkiye. Iraqi Ambassador to Ankara Majid Abdulreda Hassan Al-Lachmawi announced that all entry visa procedures for Iraq can now be completed entirely online.
The system was unveiled during a ceremony at the Iraqi Embassy in Ankara, attended by Ambassador Al-Lachmawi, Director General of Population and Passports Nashat Alkhafaji, Interior Ministry Spokesperson Abbas Al-Bahadli, and other Iraqi officials.
Ambassador Al-Lachmawi said Türkiye has officially become part of the new electronic visa application system, which was developed through cooperation between Iraq’s Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Interior.
Visa Applications Fully Digitized
Speaking at the event, Alkhafaji stated, “As of yesterday, we began issuing electronic identification cards starting from the population offices.” He added that electronic passport services have also been launched, noting that Türkiye is among 20 countries equipped with the necessary infrastructure for these services.
Alkhafaji explained that electronic entry visas for Iraq can now be processed entirely online. He said the implementation began this week in Ankara and will expand to Istanbul next week, transferring a domestic digital solution to Iraqi missions abroad.
24-Hour Processing for Investors
Interior Ministry Spokesperson Bahadli highlighted that the new visa system—being implemented for the first time—will initially apply to investors and businesspeople. He noted that applications may be finalized within 24 hours.
“This visa will include certain features such as the possibility of extension, and all these steps aim to facilitate investment and business activities for Turkish investors and businesspeople in Iraq,” Bahadli added.
