Minister of Labor and Social Security, Vedat Işıkhan, announced that during interviews with 17,181 businesses employing one or more employees, 270,761 open job positions, as requested and needed by employers, were identified.
Ankara – Işıkhan announced on his social media account that the second-quarter results report of the 2024 Open Job Statistics Research, prepared by İŞKUR to identify the sectors demanding the most workers and the most sought-after occupations, has been published.
“We identified 270,761 open job positions (employees requested and needed by employers) by contacting 17,181 businesses with one or more employees,” Işıkhan stated, inviting those who wish to apply for suitable positions to visit “http://esube.iskur.gov.tr.”
13 sectors have an open job rate below the general average
According to the report, four out of the 17 sectors included in the research had an open job rate above the national average, while 13 sectors had an open job rate below the general average.
In businesses with 1-9 employees, a total of 114,552 open job positions were identified, while in businesses with 10 or more employees, there were 156,209 open job positions.
As of the second quarter of 2024, the highest open job rate was found to be 2.9% in the “Accommodation and Food Service Activities” sector.
This sector was followed by the “Manufacturing” sector with an open job rate of 2.3%, and the “Culture, Arts, Entertainment, Recreation and Sports” sector with an open job rate of 1.7%.
Most sought-after professions in sectors
In the sector with the highest open job rate, “Accommodation and Food Service Activities,” the most sought-after professions were identified as wait staff, housekeeping staff, kitchen assistants, busboys, and dishwashers.
In the “Manufacturing” sector, the most sought-after professions were determined to be sewing machine operators, apparel workers, metalwork mass production machine operators, MIG/MAG welders, and shoe manufacturers (assembly).
In the “Culture, Arts, Entertainment, Recreation and Sports” sector, the most sought-after professions were identified as wait staff, cleaners, coaches (sports trainers), fitness instructors, and tutors.
The highest number of open positions is in the sewing machine operator profession
The research found that the profession with the highest number of open positions, at 4.8%, is sewing machine operator. Other professions in the top ten include apparel workers, wait staff, cleaners, sales consultants/assistants, warehouse workers (handling), MIG/MAG welders, manual laborers (transportation, loading-unloading), junior accountants, and metalwork mass production machine operators.
As of the second quarter of 2024, 25.8% of the open positions nationwide were in these professions.
