Passenger traffic, which has decreased to a great extent throughout the world and in Turkiye during the COVID-19 epidemic, continues to increase rapidly since the beginning of 2022.
Turkish civil aviation, which has overcome the negative impact of the epidemic with the measures taken last year, continues to rise in terms of air traffic and passenger density.
The number of passengers using Istanbul Airport has approached 60 million
According to the information compiled from the website of the General Directorate of State Airports Authority (DHMI), 14 million 775 thousand 573 of the passengers traveled from domestic flights and 44 million 288 thousand 618 from international lines in the January-November period of this year at Istanbul Airport. During this period, a total of 59 million 64 thousand 191 people used Istanbul Airport.
In the same period last year, a total of 33 million 254 thousand 622 passengers traveled from Istanbul Airport, 9 million 705 thousand 606 on the domestic line and 23 million 549 thousand 16 on the international line.
Compared to the same period of the previous year, the number of passengers increased by 52% in domestic flights and by 88% in international flights.
At Istanbul Airport, where 33 million 254 thousand 622 passengers traveled in total in the 11 months of last year, an increase of 25 million 809 thousand 569 passengers was recorded compared to the previous year. Compared to the same period of the previous year, it was determined that the number of passengers increased by 78%.
International passengers increase in Sabiha Gokcen
During this period, 28 million 70 thousand 688 people used Sabiha Gokcen Airport. In the January-November period of this year, 14 million 685 passengers on domestic flights and 14 million 69 thousand 3 passengers on international flights flew at this airport. In total, 28 million 70 thousand 688 people used this airport.
In the same period of last year, a total of 22 million 696 thousand 371 passengers, 14 million 960 thousand 894 domestic and 7 million 735 thousand 477 international passengers, were hosted at the airport.
During this period, the number of passengers hosted at Sabiha Gokcen Airport decreased by 959 thousand 209 in domestic flights and increased by 6 million 333 thousand 526 in international lines. In total, an increase of 5 million 374 thousand 317 passengers was calculated compared to last year.
A total of 87 million 134 thousand 879 people traveled from Istanbul airports, 28 million 777 thousand 258 on domestic flights and 58 million 357 thousand 621 on international flights. In the January-November period of last year, 55 million 951 thousand 447 passengers flew on domestic and international routes with Istanbul-based flights.
It was calculated that the number of passengers traveling from Istanbul airports increased by 56% with 31 million 183 thousand 432 people in the same period of this year.
The number of flights has also increased
In the 11 months of this year, the number of passengers and round-trip flights based in Istanbul airports increased.
In the January-November period of this year, 100 thousand 950 domestic flights and 287 thousand 511 flights were made at Istanbul Airport, while the total number of flights was calculated as 388 thousand 461.
At the airport, where a total of 251 thousand 85 flights were made in the 11 months of last year, an increase of 137 thousand 376 in air traffic was determined compared to the same period of this year. Accordingly, it was calculated that the flights increased by approximately 55%.
Sabiha Gokcen flights exceeded 180 thousand in 11 months
In the period covering 11 months of this year, 182 thousand 858 flights were organized at Sabiha Gokcen Airport. 89 thousand 245 of these expeditions were carried out on the domestic line and 93 thousand 613 on the outer line. In the same period of last year, a total of 165 thousand 119 flights were carried out from this airport, while the increase in flights was calculated as 17 thousand 739.
During this period, Ataturk Airport made 14 thousand 583 flights on domestic lines and 11 thousand 377 flights on international lines, while a total of 25 thousand 960 flights were made. In the same period of last year, a total of 37,787 flights were organized at Ataturk Airport.
In the January-November period of this year, 597 thousand 279 flights were made from Istanbul airports, and 453 thousand 991 flights were made in the same period of last year.
The number of flights organized in the 11-month period of this year increased by 143 thousand 288 compared to the same period of the previous year. Thus, the number of flights increased by approximately 32% compared to the same period of the previous year.
