Istanbul Exporters made $4.8B worth of exports to 188 countries

Istanbul Exporters Union (IIB) became the third union to increase its exports the most on the basis of general secretariats. The share of Istanbul exporters in the country exports was 5.1 percent and they exported to 188 countries in the first 8 months of 2020.

IIB made the highest export on value basis to Iraq with $356.4 million value in the first 8 months; poultry, animal products, furniture, paper and forestry products were exported the most to Iraq.

Following Iraq, the Union exported the most to Germany, USA, Norway and Saudi Arabia on value basis. IIB mostly exported hazelnuts, grains, legumes and oily seeds to Germany, cereals, pulses, oily seeds, furniture and paper products to USA, ship and yacht to Norway, furniture, paper and forestry products, grains, pulses, oily seeds to Saudi Arabia.

IIB made $533 million worth exports in August and exported the most to Iraq, Norway and Saudi Arabia during this month.

Export numbers of IIB associations

Istanbul Cereals, Pulses, Oily Seeds Exporters’ Association made $1 billion 241 million worth exports in the first 8 months of 2020. The Association made $137 million worth exports in August; there is a 3.3 percent increase compared to August 2019.

Istanbul Furniture, Paper and Forest Products Exporters’ Association reached an export value of approximately $1 billion 160 million in the January-August period. The Association increased its exports by 3.8 percent, to $148 million in August compared to the August 2019.

Istanbul Ship, Yacht and Services Exporters’ Association made approximately $762 million worth exports and achieved a 10.5 percent increase in exports in the first 8 months of 2020 compared to the same period of 2019. The Association had an export value of $ 120 million in August and increased its exports by 9.4 percent compared to the August 2019.

Istanbul Hazelnut Exporters’ Association made approximately $426 million dollars worth exports in the January-August period and achieved a 15.7 percent increase compared to the same period of 2019. The Association, made $31.5 million worth exports in August and increased its exports by 13 percent compared to August 2019.

Istanbul Fisheries and Animal Products Exporters’ Association had an export value of $457 million in the first 8 months of 2020. The Association made $50 million worth exports in August.

Istanbul Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Exporters’ Association made approximately $230 million worth exports in January-August period and increased its exports by 17.5 percent compared to the same period of 2019. The Association had an export value of $23 million in August and achieved an 8 percent increase compared to August 2019.

Istanbul Dried Fruit and Products Exporters’ Association realized approximately $104 million worth exports in the first 8 months of 2020 and increased its exports by 3.8 percent compared to the same period of 2019. The Association reached an export value of over $ 13 million in August and made a 60.6 percent increase in exports compared to August 2019.

‘’ Despite the Covid-19 pandemic, which negatively affected the world economy in 2020, the IIB made 3.7 percent increase in its exports in the first 8 months compared to the same period 2019. I congratulate all our exporters who have contributed to this success. We have worked hard to minimize the effects of the pandemic and continue to do so. We expect to increase our exports more by the end of 2020. Due to the pandemic, we digitalized our activities which we planned to do abroad such as trade delegations, promotional activities and purchasing delegations for our target markets. We take firm steps towards the end of the year by entering new markets and strengthening our presence in existing markets.’’
