Italy Leads Cargo Shipments from Turkish Ports in First Half of 2024

Turkiye’s Maritime Statistics Highlight Italy as Top Destination for Outbound Shipments

According to Turkiye’s maritime statistics for the January-June 2024 period, Italy emerged as the top destination for outbound cargo shipments from Turkish ports in June this year. The highest volume of inbound cargo via sea ports came from Russia. Transport and Infrastructure Minister Abdulkadir Uraloglu noted that shipments to Italy surpassed those to the US and Spain in terms of cargo volume.

Minister Uraloglu highlighted that the largest volume of inbound cargo via sea ports originated from Russia, stating, “In June, Turkish ports handled a total of 32,186,365 tons of outbound cargo, with 7.7% carried by Turkish-flagged vessels. The volume of outbound cargo carried by Turkish-flagged vessels decreased by 14.1% compared to the same month last year, amounting to 2,493,685 tons. Meanwhile, the volume of outbound cargo carried by foreign-flagged vessels decreased by 3.6% year-on-year, totaling 29,692,680 tons.”
