Karpowership, owner of the world’s largest fleet of floating power plants (Powerships), has added a new LNG Terminal Ship (LNGTS) to its fleet with a naming ceremony at the Seatrium Shipyard in Singapore, while strengthening its strategic partnership with Seatrium for the construction of next-generation Powerships.
According to the company, Karpowership—designer, owner, and operator of a fleet with 10,000 MW of installed capacity—is enhancing its expertise in floating infrastructure by expanding its LNGTS fleet and launching a new generation of Powership designs.
The newly added vessel, Karadeniz LNGTS Americas, has the capability to store LNG, regasify it for delivery to Powerships or land-based power plants, and conduct fuel transfers.
As part of its growth strategy, Karpowership has signed a letter of intent with Seatrium to produce next-generation Powerships featuring modular designs adaptable to project needs and equipped with advanced technologies such as Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage (CCUS).
Speaking at the ceremony, Karpowership CEO Orhan Remzi Karadeniz said:
“We launched our first Powerships more than 20 years ago, right here in Singapore. Today, I am proud to be at the naming ceremony of our new LNG terminal ship. Karpowership currently owns around 1% of the world’s installed natural gas-to-power capacity. Our goal is to double that to 2% within the next decade, reflecting both the challenges facing the global energy sector and the urgency to act.”
Karadeniz highlighted the rising global demand for electricity and the millions of people without access to power, adding:
“We are aware of the responsibility on our shoulders. Guided by our ‘One World’ philosophy, we will continue to work and grow until we can deliver electricity to every location in the world that needs it.”
