Karpowership Initiative Kinetics Begins Construction of First High-Capacity FSRU, LNGT Karadeniz

ISTANBUL — Kinetics, the energy transition initiative of Karpowership, has officially started construction of its first high-capacity floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU), LNGT Karadeniz, marking a significant milestone in the company’s expansion of floating LNG infrastructure.

Construction began with a steel-cutting ceremony at Seatrium Shipyard in Singapore, where the LNG carrier will be converted into an advanced FSRU. The vessel is designed to provide a complete floating LNG receiving and regasification solution that can be rapidly deployed to meet growing global demand for flexible natural gas infrastructure.

Once completed, LNGT Karadeniz will become Karpowership’s first high-capacity FSRU, capable of regasifying up to 600 million standard cubic feet of natural gas per day (mmscfd). The vessel will integrate advanced regasification technology, marine engineering, cargo handling, LNG offloading and automation systems to support efficient and reliable gas-to-power projects.

The project forms part of Kinetics’ broader strategy to expand its fleet of floating LNG terminals and strengthen Karpowership’s integrated LNG-to-power offering. The company aims to combine floating LNG infrastructure with its fleet of Powerships, enabling countries to secure fast, flexible and lower-emission electricity generation without building permanent onshore facilities.

The LNGT Karadeniz conversion follows Karpowership’s long-standing partnership with Singapore-based Seatrium, which has completed multiple FSRU conversion projects for the Turkish energy group. The vessel is the latest addition to a planned series of next-generation floating LNG assets being developed by Kinetics.

Karpowership currently operates one of the world’s largest fleets of floating power plants, serving electricity markets across Africa, Asia and Latin America. The addition of LNGT Karadeniz is expected to enhance the company’s ability to deliver integrated LNG import and power generation solutions to countries seeking faster access to cleaner energy sources.
