The Koç University İşbank Artificial Intelligence Research and Application Center (KUIS AI), established through a partnership between Koç University and Türkiye İş Bankası, has received Amazon Web Services (AWS) Cloud Research Credit support to boost its advanced AI research.
According to the university’s statement, KUIS AI will utilize the AWS infrastructure to power a wide range of AI projects — from image processing to natural language understanding — aiming to expand the national capacity in artificial intelligence research.
The support allows faculty members and their research teams to access up to $10,000 per project in AWS cloud credits, which will be used not only for ongoing studies but also to nurture early-stage ideas.
In addition to the credits, KUIS AI researchers gain access to AWS Skill Builder, a digital training platform for cloud technologies, and receive technical consulting from AWS experts on architectural design.
KUIS AI Director Prof. Dr. Çiğdem Gündüz Demir emphasized the importance of high-performance computing for innovation in AI:
“Cloud computing services like those offered by AWS are invaluable for our researchers to implement innovative ideas, process large-scale data, and develop advanced models without being limited by physical infrastructure.”
Demir underlined that AI is a transformative force not just in technology but also in shaping societies, and said that such collaborations are vital for Turkey’s visibility and competitiveness in the global AI arena.
