
Kocaeli, one of Türkiye’s key industrial hubs, closed 2024 with $20.4 billion in exports to 182 countries and regions. With its strong industrial infrastructure and logistical advantages, Kocaeli significantly contributed to Türkiye’s export targets for the year.
Ranking second after Istanbul in Türkiye’s export performance, Kocaeli continues to serve as a driving force for the national economy.
According to data from the Turkish Exporters Assembly (TIM), Kocaeli’s exports, which amounted to $18.7 billion in 2023, rose by 9% in 2024, reaching $20.4 billion.
Automotive Sector Leads Exports
Home to major production facilities such as Ford Otosan, Hyundai Assan, and Anadolu Isuzu, Kocaeli secured the top spot in Türkiye’s automotive exports for 2024.
Automotive exports from the province increased by 14% compared to 2023, totaling $9.67 billion. Istanbul followed with $8.3 billion, while Bursa ranked third with $7.65 billion.
The chemical sector maintained its position as the second-largest exporting industry in Kocaeli, achieving $5.21 billion in exports, a 3% increase. The steel sector ranked third with $1.16 billion in exports.
The fourth and fifth places were occupied by the iron and non-ferrous metals sector and the electrical and electronics sector, with exports of $1.15 billion and $1.01 billion, respectively.
Exports to 182 Countries and Regions
With 35 port facilities surrounding Izmit Bay, Kocaeli acts as Türkiye’s gateway to the world, exporting to 182 countries and regions in 2024.
The United Kingdom became the top export destination for Kocaeli, with a 35% increase, amounting to $2.58 billion in exports.
Slovenia recorded a 40% growth compared to the previous year, taking second place with $1.79 billion in exports, followed by Italy in third place with $1.4 billion.
Germany and France were also among Kocaeli’s largest export markets, with $1.12 billion and $1.1 billion in exports, respectively.
Kocaeli’s robust performance underscores its vital role in boosting Türkiye’s export figures and maintaining its position as a global trade powerhouse.
