Turkiye’s cherry exports reached $205 million

Aegean Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Exporters’ Association President Hayrettin Ucak announced that Turkiye’s cherry exports, of which Turkiye is the world leader in production, have reached $205 million.

In its statement, Ucak noted that according to the association data, Turkiye exported cherries worth $205 million until August 4, 2023 in exchange for 75 thousand tons.

Emphasizing that they had a productive and fruitful cherry season, Ucak said, “Last year, we exported 57 thousand tons of cherries, this year we reached 75 thousand tons. In 2023, Turkish cherry exports increased by 32% on amount and 54% on value basis. We have reached 54 different export markets, we have succeeded in increasing our exports to 34 countries and regions.”

Pointing out that Turkiye ranks first in the world in cherry production, Ucak gave the following information:

“In addition to our traditional markets such as Germany and Russia, our Turkish cherry is very popular in countries such as Hong Kong, Singapore and India. This season, we have exported $92 million to our main markets, Germany, with an increase of 91%, and $41 million to Russia. Austria ranked third in our exports with an increase of 686%, with $14 million. Italy is a market where we experience an astronomical increase. Our exports to Italy increased to $7.7 million and we have $7.1 million of exports to Norway. We’ve also made great progress in the UK and Spain.”
