Local startup Missafir acquires Croatia-based Golden Leaf

Missafir, Turkiye’s first short/medium-term home rental management platform, acquired Golden Leaf Properties to make a strong entry into the Central European market.

Missafir, Turkiye’s first short/medium-term home rental management platform, acquired Golden Leaf to make a strong entry into the Central European market.

Missafir, which added more than 110 houses of Golden Leaf, which was established in 2014, to its portfolio, has included the company that manages the short-term rental process of high-quality villas and apartments into its service network.

This service network, which covers the most popular destinations of the Adriatic region such as Sibenik, Split, Hvar Islands, Zadar and Trogir, mostly welcomes tourists from European countries such as Germany, United Kingdom, Poland and Italy. Missafir will differentiate themselves in the sector by providing a wide range of services such as furnishing, cleaning, listing and customer service for homeowners in these destinations.

Mehmet Yuksel, the founder and CEO of Missafir, said; “Our entry into Croatia and the acquisition of Golden Leaf Properties is an important step for us in our journey to become a global brand that will introduce Turkish hospitality to the world. We are entering Croatia, one of the most important tourism countries of the region and one of the most popular tourism countries in recent years, with a large portfolio and a good team. This will provide a competitive advantage for us in entering the market and will be a strategic step towards expanding to CEE countries, where we will continue rapidly.”

Maksimilijan Šprung, co-founder of Golden Leaf Properties, said: “We are very excited to join the Missafir family. Golden Leaf has been a local real estate management company for years and now we are becoming an international brand. There will be a lot of experience and potential outputs from this merger, providing unmatched service to hosts and an unforgettable experience for our guests in our homes. I believe that we will become the biggest home accommodation brand in this geography by combining the muscles of both sides in the very near future.”

Missafir, which has added new products mainly to luxury and VIP segments with the acquisition of Golden Leaf Properties, will be providing more services to foreign tourists looking for a high-end experience during their holidays.

With this acquisition, Missafir expanded its service coverage by owning more than 2000 homes in more than 100 popular locations in Turkiye, Northern Cyprus, Montenegro (recently) and Mykonos. Aiming to be the largest in Europe by the end of next year, the initiative added Montenegro, Greece, Slovenia and Hungary to its targets.

In this way, Missafir, which has increased the rate of foreign tourists in its customer portfolio on the accommodation side, predicts that it will mediate a higher quality accommodation experience and thus a great increase in foreign currency inflows to Turkiye.

A brand that opens to the world from Turkiye

With the acquisition of Golden Leaf, Missafir took its place among the few Turkish enterprises that opened to the foreign market in such a short time after its establishment. For Missafir, which has been acting with the vision of “becoming a global brand that adds value to Turkiye” since the first day, this breakthrough brings with it new business models and customer segments. The startup also stated that they have been in the process of detailed and careful preparation for this acquisition for a while in many areas from market research to strategic planning.

Missafir, which has recently completed its pre-Series A investment round, will continue to expand into the European market. At the same time, the initiative, which is on its way to become a leader in the field of proptech by strengthening its technological infrastructure, also implements new technological products. The brand has announced that it will make a launch about the developments in a short time.

It is pleasing news that Missafir, which closed 2022 with a 10-fold growth in this period when many technology startups are shrinking, will continue to develop in 2023 without slowing down with this acquisition, and it gives hope to all of us in this difficult time…
