Ministry of Commerce launched an inspection on zero kilometer vehicle prices

Minister of Commerce Mehmet Mus gave an inspection order for the dealers who allegedly did not reflect the discount, which emerged after the change in the special consumption tax base in zero kilometer vehicle sales, to the prices.

In the statement made by the Ministry, it was reminded that with the change in the excise tax bases within the scope of the President’s Decision dated August 12, 2021, it is aimed to reduce the prices of zero kilometer vehicles.

On the other hand, it was stated in the statement that more than 2,000 complaints were sent to the Ministry regarding the fact that the said regulation was not reflected in the market prices. “In the aforementioned complaint applications, there were allegations that the dealers refrained from applying discounts on the prices of the vehicles covered by the SCT regulation, and that they also tried to make an agreement with the dealers for various reasons or to sell them as second-hand vehicles at a high price within their own stock. Again, in these complaint applications, it was stated that the dealers who made unfair transactions did not sell the vehicles under the SCT regulation to their customers, claiming that they did not have any vehicles in their stocks.”

Penal sanction will be applied

In the statement, it was stated that inspectors of the Ministry of Commerce were assigned with the order of Minister Mus in order to resolve these complaints from citizens and to determine the unfair commercial practices that try to neutralize the said regulation, which aims to reduce the prices of zero kilometer vehicles with the Presidential Decree, and to implement penal sanctions in this regard.

“Inspections have started urgently by the inspectors within the scope of the Law on the Protection of the Consumer, the Law on the Regulation of Retail Trade and other relevant legislation. In this context, the inspectors examine the supply chain of manufacturers, distributors, and dealers for zero kilometer vehicles, and these inspections are currently ongoing.”
