Karabuk Iron and Steel Factories (KARDEMIR), which is the first industry in Turkey and undertakes a leading role in industrialization moves, is taking firm steps to meet the entire need of the country on the railway wheel.
In the statement made by Karabuk Iron and Steel Factories (KARDEMIR), it was stated that following the visit of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to the factory in 2007, the rail systems adventure that started with the rail and profile rolling mill continued with products with high added value such as railway wheels.
In the statement underlined that KARDEMIR has the only railway wheel production facility in Turkey and a limited number in the world, it was said “Our company is struggling with foreign dependency in the railway wheel as it is in its other products. Our company continues to increase its capacity and product range with new investments while renewing its production technologies.”
It was emphasized that Turkish Republic State Railways (TCDD) and the private sector’s locomotive, wagon and other railway transportation, vehicle parks continue to increase significantly, and in this context, KARDEMIR has accelerated the production of locomotive and wagon wheels. It was noted that TCDD Transportation Inc. and Turkey Rail System Vehicles Industry Inc. (TURASAS) came together with the managers, and the collaborations to be developed between their companies and the two institutions were discussed during the visit to the factory site.

“At the meeting, where the need for railway wheels was brought to the agenda in line with the progress of the railway, which is expanding every year in line with the 2023 targets of Turkey and increasing its investments, the emphasis was placed on domestic and national production. KARDEMIR, the domestic manufacturer of the railway wheel, which is one of the indispensable equipment of freight and passenger transportation, underlined that its supply has a great contribution to the country’s economy. Our company, which will be able to meet all the needs in our country with the production of 200 thousand railway wheels per year, will continue to be a leader in the development of domestic and national industry, as well as collaborations with well-established institutions such as TCDD, as well as cooperation with the countries in the world and the region.”
