Nestlé to Sell 50% of Water Business, Including Erikli, to U.S. Investment Firm

VEVEY, Switzerland — Nestlé has agreed to sell a 50% stake in its global water business, including Türkiye’s leading bottled water brand Erikli, to U.S.-based private equity firm Platinum Equity as part of a major restructuring aimed at sharpening its focus on core businesses. The transaction values the new venture at €4.9 billion, with Nestlé expected to receive approximately €3 billion in cash upon completion.

The new joint venture, to be named Peranel, will be jointly owned by Nestlé and Platinum Equity. Its portfolio will include more than 30 bottled water brands sold in 120 countries, including premium international labels such as Perrier, S.Pellegrino, Acqua Panna, Nestlé Pure Life, and a range of local brands, including Erikli in Türkiye.

The deal is expected to close in the first half of 2027, subject to regulatory approvals. Nestlé said the partnership will allow the water business to operate with greater flexibility while enabling the Swiss food giant to concentrate on its core growth areas, including coffee, pet care, infant nutrition, and food products.

Nestlé CEO Philipp Navratil said the partnership with Platinum Equity would position Peranel to execute its strategy with greater agility, while Nestlé continues to streamline its global portfolio and improve profitability.

The water division has faced increasing legal, regulatory, and environmental scrutiny in recent years, particularly in France over water treatment practices and sustainability concerns. The transaction is part of a broader restructuring effort that has also included divestments in other non-core businesses.

For Turkish consumers, the sale does not mean Erikli is being divested separately. Instead, the brand will become part of the newly established Peranel joint venture, while Nestlé retains a 50% ownership stake alongside Platinum Equity.
