ISTANBUL — Cargo operations at the TCDD Izmir Port, owned by the Türkiye Wealth Fund, have been transferred to Alport Alsancak Port Management Inc., a company established under Albayrak Group’s international port management brand Alport.
The new operating period officially began on August 1, 2026, with a focus on digitalization, operational efficiency and uninterrupted service.
Under the new structure, Alport will manage container, bulk cargo, general cargo, project cargo, heavy-lift handling, rail, Ro-Ro, container freight station and warehouse operations at the port.
Focus on Operational Continuity
Alport said loading, unloading, cargo handling and vessel operations are expected to continue without disruption during the transition.
Requests and applications previously submitted to TCDD Izmir Port will also be forwarded to Alport during the transition period. Initially, requests will be handled via email, while operations will gradually move to a fully digital system once the customer portal is fully operational.
Some existing procedures for cargo securing and lashing services will remain in place temporarily. Certain services for general cargo and Ro-Ro vessels are expected to continue under the existing system until December 31, 2026.
Port Infrastructure Undergoing Digital Transformation
Alport has upgraded the port’s technological infrastructure as part of the transition, including its fiber-optic network, network systems, access points and switching infrastructure.
Port operations will be managed through the next-generation Gullseye Port Operations System, supported by handheld and vehicle terminals for field operations.
A new web portal will allow customers to track their transactions digitally and access port services more quickly. Automated gate systems and digital integrations are also expected to make operations faster, safer, more transparent and more efficient.
The existing gate entry and exit system will remain in place until September 1, 2026. The operating schedule after that date will be reassessed based on a potential 24/7 operating model.
Billing to Continue Through Türkiye Wealth Fund Company
While operational and accrual processes will be managed by Alport, billing and collection activities will be carried out through TVF Izmir Alsancak Port Investment and Management Inc.
Service charges accrued up to 11:59 p.m. on July 31 will be billed on behalf of TCDD Izmir Port, while charges incurred from midnight on August 1 onward will be collected through the Türkiye Wealth Fund-affiliated company.
The existing TCDD tariff will remain valid until January 1, 2027.
Alport Targets Stronger Regional Role
Alport said it aims to unlock Alsancak Port’s potential through its international port management expertise and position the facility as a major hub for regional and global trade through modern infrastructure, increased capacity and competitive operations.
The company said the transformation is intended to strengthen the role of Izmir, the Aegean region and Türkiye in global trade, marking the beginning of a new phase for one of the country’s strategically important ports.
