New Era in Trade and Investment Cooperation Between Türkiye and Portugal

Lisbon — A new phase in trade and investment cooperation between Türkiye and Portugal has been launched following the 5th Term Meeting of the Türkiye–Portugal Joint Economic and Trade Commission (JETCO), held in Lisbon.

The meeting was co-chaired by Turkish Minister of Trade Ömer Bolat and Portuguese Minister of Foreign Affairs Paulo Rangel, where both sides outlined a comprehensive roadmap to deepen economic relations.

During the talks, the two countries discussed expanding cooperation across a wide range of strategic sectors, including mutual investments, contracting services, collaboration in third countries, industry and technology, energy, agriculture, environment, transportation, and defense industries.

Minister Bolat stated that the discussions aimed to further strengthen bilateral ties and emphasized that both parties agreed to elevate relations based on a “win-win” principle.

The meeting also addressed key issues related to the European Union agenda, particularly the modernization of the Customs Union, highlighting its importance for future economic integration.

Bilateral trade between Türkiye and Portugal reached a record $3.7 billion in 2025, reflecting growing economic ties. Turkish investments in Portugal have also risen significantly, totaling approximately €1.6 billion, demonstrating strong confidence from Turkish businesses.

Officials expressed optimism that the outcomes of the JETCO meeting will lead to new business partnerships and increased investment opportunities between companies in both countries.

Outlook

Experts suggest that the strengthened cooperation framework could accelerate trade growth and diversify joint ventures, particularly in strategic and high-value sectors, marking a new chapter in Türkiye–Portugal economic relations.
