New logistics centers will be established in Gaziantep and Kocaeli

Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Adil Karaismailoglu said that the new logistics centers to be established in Gaziantep and Kocaeli will make significant contributions to Turkiye’s exports and imports, and that the cities’ economy will be stronger.

According to the statement made by the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, the 1st Logistics Coordination Board Meeting was held.

The Board took new decisions in line with the purpose of realizing the Logistics Master Plan (U2053), prioritizing the projects to strengthen the logistics infrastructure within the plan, and monitoring the construction processes.

In this context, it was decided to establish new logistics centers in Gaziantep and Kocaeli. At the meeting, where the importance of an integrated transportation system with a competitive advantage was pointed out, the issues of “disaster logistics” and “transport and logistics principles in disaster risk management”, the importance of which was understood once again after the earthquakes on 6 February, were also discussed by all stakeholders.

“Gaziantep and Kocaeli economy will be stronger”

Minister Karaismailoglu, in his evaluation on the subject, stated that the logistics centers to be established in the said provinces will make significant contributions to Turkiye’s exports and imports, and said, “Gaziantep and Kocaeli economy will be stronger.”

Karaismailoglu pointed out that the COVID-19 outbreak and the Russia-Ukraine War caused international trade to enter a new era, and noted that Turkiye’s strategic importance once again emerged after these developments.

Emphasizing that their work will continue without slowing down with the aim of “being among the top 10 economies of the world”, Karaismailoglu said, “We are continuing our projects both in the earthquake zone and in other provinces in order to move our country further in this difficult period.”

The new logistics center will be established on an area of 800 hectares in Kocaeli.

The new logistics centers to be established in Kocaeli and Gaziantep, which are located at the critical points of Turkiye’s transportation network and where the load flow is high, will make significant contributions to Turkiye’s exports and imports.

The center, which will be located in Kocaeli, which has the largest share in the production of value-added groups such as petroleum, mining, food, beverage and automotive industry products, is planned to be established on an area of 800 hectares. In the modeling made in the light of the Logistics Master Plan, it is expected to make significant contributions to Istanbul, especially the Kocaeli Bay.

A logistics center will be established in the Sehitkamil region in Gaziantep, which is one of the important centers of the industry in Turkiye and especially in the Southeastern Anatolia Region and where transit passes in heavy vehicle traffic are very high. This will be an important step for the compliance of Turkiye’s transportation policy with the main objectives, as well as for the region to stand up again and stronger than before.
