New System for Overseas Orders in Turkiye: Tracking Purchases by Website to Begin

As Turkiye tightens customs regulations about overseas orders, a new system will track every purchase made from international websites, with logistics companies required to report details digitally.

In light of recent increases in customs duties and reductions in value limits for imported goods, Turkiye is introducing a new measure to monitor overseas shopping more closely. The General Directorate of Customs has announced that, moving forward, all packages entering Turkiye will be digitally tracked by the website from which they were purchased. Logistics and courier companies will be responsible for reporting this information for each package.

This new system will apply to all packages arriving from any country, with implementation expected by August 15th. A “marketplace” field will be added to simplified customs declarations to facilitate the process. Companies failing to provide accurate information may face penalties.

Recently, a presidential decree significantly increased customs duties on products imported to Turkiye via express shipping or postal services, while also reducing the value limit for duty-free items from €150 to €30. This change is expected to sharply reduce the volume of overseas shopping due to the combined burden of customs broker fees, customs duties, and additional taxes.
