New Verified Property Listings Set to Revolutionize Real Estate Market in Turkiye

Starting September 15, the introduction of “verified listings” aims to eliminate consumer fraud and enhance transparency in real estate transactions.

Starting September 15, Turkiye’s real estate market will witness a significant transformation with the implementation of “verified listings” for property advertisements. This new regulation, announced by the Ministry of Trade, aims to formalize the property listing process and curb fraudulent advertisements that mislead consumers.

Under the new system, individuals looking to sell properties will be required to select their real estate agents through the e-Devlet portal. The agents will then be authorized to post “verified listings” on real estate platforms. By January 1, all property listings will be mandated to be “verified,” ensuring increased reliability for prospective buyers and renters.

This reform is set to address consumer grievances by preventing false listings and price manipulations. Ergün Kılıç, President of the Consumers’ Association, praised the regulation, highlighting that it will protect consumer interests and address violations of basic rights by opportunistic individuals and businesses.

Kılıç explained that misleading listings, often presented at unrealistically low prices, redirect consumers to other properties or involve listings for properties without the owners’ consent. The new system aims to eliminate these deceptive practices, fostering a more trustworthy and ethical real estate market.

To support the transition, real estate professional organizations will offer guidance and training to industry players. Consumers are encouraged to remain vigilant, research listings thoroughly, and report any misleading advertisements encountered.
