Nu Teknoloji Offers Operator-Independent Private 5G IoT Infrastructure

Nu Teknoloji has introduced an operator-independent private Internet of Things (IoT) communication infrastructure based on non-cellular 5G (DECT NR+), enabling institutions to establish their own private IoT networks without relying on telecom operators.

According to a statement from the company, Nu Teknoloji, an R&D firm operating within Dijitalpark Technokent, emphasized that the 5G ecosystem is expanding beyond traditional operator networks and driving transformation in IoT and critical infrastructure systems.

As telecom operators in Türkiye prepare to launch 5G services, the technology is expected to play a growing role not only in mobile communications but also in enabling connectivity among millions of devices—from energy facilities to agricultural sites.

The International Telecommunication Union’s IMT-2020 framework defines 5G through multiple technology standards. While 3GPP’s 5G NR dominates the cellular segment, the DECT-2020 NR (NR+) standard—developed particularly for machine-to-machine communication and industrial IoT applications—is also recognized as part of the broader 5G ecosystem.

Nu Teknoloji’s solution operates in license-free spectrum bands and does not require SIM cards. Using a mesh network architecture, devices can communicate directly with each other, allowing sensors and devices to share data with low energy consumption.

With its DECT NR+-based infrastructure, the company enables organizations to build private IoT networks within their own facilities without depending on telecom operators. Nu Teknoloji has also integrated this infrastructure with satellite-based Non-Terrestrial Network (NTN) technology, enabling uninterrupted IoT connectivity in areas outside urban coverage zones.

This integration makes it possible to maintain reliable data access in locations where network coverage is limited, such as agricultural fields, energy plants, and other critical infrastructure sites.

“5G Will Transform the IoT World”

Ayşe Nur Koroğlu, Co-Founder responsible for Business Development at Nu Teknoloji, stated that while 5G is often perceived merely as faster mobile internet, the real transformation will occur in the IoT ecosystem, where millions of devices can communicate securely and sustainably.

Koroğlu said the company’s non-cellular 5G architecture allows organizations to establish their own private IoT networks without relying on telecom operators.

“With satellite integration, we can extend these networks to locations where coverage does not exist,” she said. “Our 5G-based IoT infrastructure can be used in a wide range of areas including smart energy management, urban infrastructure, environmental sensors, and industrial automation.”

She added that the company is also developing various products using this technology, such as “Direk GES” solutions that transform street lighting poles into smart systems capable of generating energy and sharing data, smart electricity meters, solar-powered smart benches, and devices for monitoring air quality and environmental data—contributing to the digitalization of cities and infrastructure systems.
