Chinese consumer electronics giant Oppo plans to produce 800,000 smartphones at its Tuzla factory in Türkiye by the end of the year, according to Oppo Türkiye Spokesperson Murat Karakoç. The facility has an annual production capacity of 5.5 million units.
Speaking on Bloomberg HT’s Gündem Teknoloji program, Karakoç said Oppo ranked fourth in the Turkish market in the first half of the year with a 6% share. “Since May 2024, we have manufactured around 540,000 smartphones at our Tuzla plant. We aim to reach 800,000 by year-end. Half of the devices sold in Türkiye are produced at this facility. Currently, 65% of the smartphones sold are 5G models, and this is expected to rise to 90% next year,” he noted.
Globally, Oppo sold 295 million smartphones in the second quarter, holding 8% of the global market and ranking fifth worldwide. Karakoç highlighted that growth was driven largely by AI-powered devices.
On R&D and patents, Karakoç said: “Türkiye is a country that can easily integrate with Europe, and Oppo values this highly. We are increasing local 5G production. Oppo has filed 113,000 patent applications globally and currently holds more than 53,000 patents. Battery efficiency is becoming more important as smaller cells now store more energy. With AI optimizing energy use, devices last longer. Oppo’s investments focus on durable batteries, AI integration, and user-friendly design and applications.”
As part of its social responsibility projects, Oppo also produced a documentary titled Flavors of Türkiye, highlighting local stories and culinary traditions across Anatolia. The project aims to showcase Türkiye’s cultural richness to wider audiences, combining technology with heritage.
