Oyak Renault will produce Megan together with Karsan

As part of the Renault Group’s strategy to optimize its industrial footprint, Oyak Renault signed a 5-year agreement with Karsan for the current Megane sedan production, effective from the end of 2022.

According to the Oyak Renault statement, within the scope of the agreement, it is aimed to transfer the existing Megane sedan production to Karsan, to make room for new generation vehicles in the capacity of the Oyak Renault factory and to maintain the intensive working order in three shifts.

While Karsan will be responsible for the production and assembly of the vehicle, Oyak Renault will continue to produce body parts. At the same time, Oyak Renault will continue to be responsible for the quality of the completed vehicles and the relations with the parts suppliers. Within the scope of the cooperation, it is envisaged that the Megane Sedan will be produced by Karsan for 5 years, while the current sales network of the vehicle will be maintained as it has been until today.

With the project, an annual production volume of 55 thousand units is expected to be created.

Oyak Renault General Manager Dr. Antoine Aoun, whose views on the subject were included in the statement, said, “As Oyak Renault, we believe that we will contribute significantly to the Turkish economy and bring a different perspective to the sector with this work we will implement with Karsan, a brand with a deep-rooted knowledge and competent workforce in its field.”

Karsan Senior Manager (CEO) Okan Bas said, “As Karsan, which offers global electric and high-tech transportation solutions suitable for the mobility needs of the age, we are happy for this cooperation with Oyak Renault. We are excited to be responsible for the production of the Renault Megane sedan model. I believe that our cooperation with Oyak-Renault will continue by getting stronger with this project, which we have taken the first step of. At the same time, we wish this good development to be auspicious for our Turkish automotive industry.”

Oyak Renault, one of the facilities with the highest capacity of the Renault Group with an annual production volume of 378,000 cars and 920,000 engines, continues to produce and export the new Clio, new Clio Hybrid and Megane sedan models, as well as the engines and mechanical parts used in these models.
