Pakistan Cancels $100 Million Dam Project Awarded to NATO Contractor Hazinedaroglu from Türkiye

While global attention remains focused on the ongoing tensions between Pakistan and India, Pakistan has made a surprising move regarding a major infrastructure project involving a Turkish NATO contractor.

The local government of Punjab, one of Pakistan’s largest provinces, has decided to cancel a $100 million dam project previously awarded to a Turkish company. The contract, part of the Chahan Dam Water Supply Project’s second and third phases, was awarded to Hazinedaroglu, a prominent construction firm from Türkiye known for its NATO contracting credentials.

Contract Cancelled After Investigation

Following a fact-finding inquiry conducted by the Chief Minister’s Inspection Team (CMIT), the Project Steering Committee of the Punjab government chose to terminate the contract and announced the launch of a new tender process.

The project was financed by the Asian Development Bank (ADB), and a new award has now been made to 5H Insaat, another construction firm with Turkish ties.

Turkish Firm’s $100 Million Contract Voided After Local Objections

Local construction companies in Pakistan raised objections after the project was originally granted to Hazinedaroglu Holding, one of Türkiye’s leading construction groups. In response, the provincial administration closely reviewed the claims and ultimately decided to cancel the nearly $100 million project.

Founded in 1971 in Istanbul as a project and consultancy firm, Hazinedaroglu is internationally known for holding a NATO Security Clearance and operating as a certified NATO contractor. The Turkish firm has carried out numerous infrastructure projects in countries ranging from Libya to Moldova.
