“Export figures will increase even more by the end of the year”

Sanliurfa Commodity Exchange Chairman Mehmet Kaya stated that the increase in pistachio exports by Turkiye in the January-September period of this year by 12% compared to the same period of the previous year is pleasing for the country’s economy.

Noting that agriculture is getting to a more strategic point with each passing day, Kaya said:

“The situation in the world today shows us that we can only build a strong economy with the revival of agriculture. In this context, we must develop methods that will benefit both our farmers and traders, and we must protect our strategic products with appropriate agricultural policies. Thus, our production and export figures will increase even more. Much larger numbers can be obtained from these lands, where the pistachio first bears fruit.

Sanliurfa is the city with the most pistachio trees. Now, in the homeland of the pistachio, it has been registered with the name of ‘Urfa flax village nut’ with geographical indication. Sanliurfa takes the first place in terms of yield in every period. Despite the changing climate conditions and global crises, Turkiye’s success in export figures is pleasing to us. We believe that with the new crops obtained in this period, the export figures will rise even higher by the end of the year. Our country will have more say in the world market in terms of pistachios.”

Licensed warehouse work continues

Explaining that as Borsa Istanbul, they are working on improving the production and trade in the field of pistachios, Kaya stated that the foremost of these is the establishment of a warehouse with a pistachio license.

Noting that they continue to work in this direction, Kaya said, “With our pistachio licensed warehouse going into operation, our farmers and traders will show more interest in this field and accordingly, Turkiye will achieve greater success in exports.”
