The “Regulation on Amending the Type Approval Regulation for the General Safety of Motor Vehicles and Their Trailers, Components, Systems, and Separate Technical Units Designed for These Vehicles and the Protection of Vulnerable Road Users and Passengers” prepared by the Ministry of Industry and Technology was published in the Official Gazette and entered into force.
According to the written statement made by the Ministry on the subject, the legislative studies implemented by taking into account the international automotive legislation aim at the international market integration of the automotive industry, ensuring that the vehicles to be introduced to the market have a high level of safety, and thus increasing the safety of lives and property on the roads.
Within this framework, advanced safety systems compatible with current technology aimed at reducing accidents have been made mandatory in vehicles through the regulation known as the General Safety Regulation.
On the other hand, the mandatory applications within the type approval legislation published by the Ministry and the dates these applications will be implemented have gained binding status for firms manufacturing in Turkey with national type approval.
In this context, taking into account the demands of the automotive sector as well, the transition date for implementation for firms manufacturing in Turkey with national type approval was set as August 31, 2024, through the amendment made in the relevant regulation to support production and preserve the sustainability of the sector.
For imported vehicles, the mandatory application and series end start date within the framework of the Customs Union will continue to be implemented as July 7, 2024.
