Saudi Arabia’s Transit Visa Move Eases Turkish Logistics Sector

ISTANBUL — A recent decision by Saudi Arabia to introduce transit visa facilitation for Turkish truck drivers is expected to significantly ease pressure on Türkiye’s logistics sector and strengthen its regional trade position.

According to reporting by Patronlar Dünyası, the new arrangement allows Turkish freight operators to pass through Saudi territory more efficiently, opening a critical land corridor toward Gulf countries.

Industry representatives emphasized that the move removes a long-standing bottleneck in overland transport routes. The easing of visa procedures is seen as a strategic development that could reinforce Türkiye’s ambition to become a key logistics hub connecting Europe, the Middle East, and Asia.

Experts also highlighted that the decision complements broader regional initiatives such as the “Development Road Project” through Iraq and the “Middle Corridor,” both of which aim to enhance east-west trade connectivity.

However, sector officials cautioned that ongoing geopolitical tensions in the region continue to create uncertainty. Fluctuations in fuel prices—linked to conflicts involving the U.S., Israel, and Iran—remain a major concern for logistics companies, impacting operational costs and planning.

The transit visa solution follows years of negotiations and is considered a breakthrough that enables Turkish truck drivers to access Gulf markets via Saudi Arabia more directly.
