Second-hand smartphone repair & maintenance workers should have Professional Certificates in Turkey

It has been made obligatory for employees at workplaces to repair and maintain second-hand mobile phones for sale, to have a Professional Competence Certificate.

After the Turkish Standards Institute (TSI) standardized the certification, renewal and sale of second-hand mobile phones, the Vocational Qualifications Authority (VQA) made a regulation on the repair and maintenance of second-hand mobile phones.

VQA, which continues to provide standards to professions and professional competence to employees under the coordination of the Ministry of Family, Labor and Social Services, has made it obligatory for employees who repair and maintain second-hand mobile phones to have Professional Competence Certificate

There will be at least 7 technical staff

According to the regulation, there will be at least 7 full-time, payroll, non-working technical staff who have a diploma in electronics/communication branch or a mastership certificate or have Professional Competence Certificate from VQA in the field of repair, maintenance and restore of mobile phones.

People who work in these workplaces and do not have other documents and diplomas specified in the standard will be required to obtain a Professional Competence Certificate in the “Cell Phone Repair Maintenance and Repairer” field.

There are 82 million subscribers

According to the data of the Information Technologies and Communication Authority for 2020, there are approximately 82 million mobile phone subscribers in Turkey.

As the problems experienced by consumers in the repair and maintenance of second-hand mobile phones increased, the “Regulation on the Sale of Refurbished Products” entered into force on August 22, 2020.
