Secure Payment System Mandatory for Second-Hand Car Sales Starting from September 27

Secure Payment System for Second-Hand Cars Becomes Mandatory

Starting on September 27, second-hand car buyers and sellers will have to use the Secure Payment System. The system, developed by the Ministry of Trade in collaboration with the Union of Turkish Notaries, aims to eliminate fraud in vehicle transactions and provide a safer process for both parties.

How the Secure Payment System Works

  • Step 1: The seller initiates the secure payment process.
  • Step 2: The buyer transfers the agreed amount to a secure intermediary account before visiting the notary.
  • Step 3: Once the sale is finalized and approved by the notary, the money is automatically transferred to the seller’s account.

This method ensures that the money is only transferred once the transaction is legally confirmed, providing security for both parties involved in the transaction.

Why It Matters for Buyers and Sellers

The primary goal of the Secure Payment System is to reduce fraud in the second-hand vehicle market. Over the years, there have been numerous reports of fraudulent schemes, with buyers paying for vehicles but never receiving them or sellers not being paid for the cars they sold.

The new system:

  • Eliminates fraud risks by securing the payment process.
  • Provides an easy-to-use, streamlined transaction process.
  • Protects buyers by ensuring that the vehicle is properly transferred to them before any funds are released.
  • Protects sellers by guaranteeing they receive payment once the sale is approved.

Benefits of the New System

  1. Fraud Prevention: Fraudulent activities in vehicle sales will be a thing of the past with the new system.
  2. Convenience: The process can be completed swiftly, without the need for in-person cash transfers.
  3. Accountability: Since the system is tied directly to notaries and the Ministry of Trade, it offers a government-backed layer of security.
  4. Transparency: Both parties can track the transaction at every stage, ensuring transparency from beginning to end.

The Role of Notaries and the Ministry of Trade

The Union of Turkish Notaries will play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation of this system. Notaries will act as official overseers, making sure that once a sale is approved, the funds are released to the seller without delay. The Ministry of Trade ensures the legal framework is in place, and they have made this system mandatory to provide greater trust and confidence in the second-hand vehicle market.

What Sellers and Buyers Need to Know

  • Sellers must initiate the secure payment process.
  • Buyers should ensure they transfer funds to the intermediary account before visiting the notary.
  • Both parties should be aware that the process is entirely secure, and no funds will be released until all legal steps are finalized.
  • Sellers and buyers can continue their transactions knowing that their money and vehicle are safe throughout the process.

A Safer Future for Car Transactions

With the introduction of the Secure Payment System, the second-hand car market in Turkiye is set to become safer, more transparent, and efficient. By removing the risk of fraud, both buyers and sellers can complete transactions with confidence. The system represents a significant step forward in protecting consumers and ensuring the legitimacy of vehicle sales across the country.
