Sisecam Takes a Furnace Break in Northern Italy: Temporary Suspension of Production Activities

Sisecam has announced that it will temporarily suspend production activities at its flat glass plant in Northern Italy due to the cold repair process of the furnace. In this context, the float line will be temporarily halted on February 7, while the laminated line will stop operations on March 13. Sisecam has decided to bring forward the cold repair of its furnace at the Northern Italy Flat Glass Plant, temporarily stopping the float line on February 7 and the laminated line on March 13, with plans to resume operations as soon as possible.

Optimizing Costs Through Early Cold Repair

Sisecam is taking its furnace at the Northern Italy Flat Glass Plant into early cold repair to optimize costs in line with production and sales projections. Due to the cold repair, the float line at this facility will pause operations on February 7, and the laminated line will follow on March 13.

€8-10 Million EBITDA Contribution Expected

Sisecam’s decision is based on an evaluation of current conditions in the European flat glass market, where total sales have remained below targets for the past two years, as well as 2025 expectations, aiming to manage the production-sales-inventory balance with high efficiency. According to the decision, employees at the facility will continue to receive income during the cold repair period through the country’s existing social security mechanisms.

These strategic steps are being taken during a challenging period marked by numerous uncertainties, with a focus on budget discipline. Thanks to increased capacity utilization at other Sisecam facilities in Europe, this move is expected to contribute €8-10 million to EBITDA profitability in 2025.

“We Will Develop Constructive Solutions for Our Employees at This Facility”

Sisecam CEO Görkem Elverici commented on the matter:

“When announcing our third-quarter results for 2024, we assured our shareholders that we are actively managing today’s challenging conditions in the best possible way. We have begun implementing financial and operational efficiency-focused actions to enhance shareholder value and ensure Sisecam’s sustainable success. Within this scope, we will swiftly restart our production operations in Northern Italy, aligning them with our production and sales projections. During this period, we will also increase capacity utilization rates at our other European flat glass facilities, achieving significant gains in overall efficiency and profitability. Sisecam’s corporate culture is built on sustainability and continuity. We will also develop constructive solutions for our colleagues who have contributed to this facility over the years. Sisecam remains committed to managing the challenges of the period without deviating from its long-term strong growth targets and will continue taking the necessary steps swiftly and decisively to create value for its shareholders.”
