Turkey’s dried figs exports reached $158M

Since the beginning of the season, exports of dried figs, one of Turkey’s leading agricultural export products, increased by 2% compared to the same period of the previous year and reached $158 million.

According to the statement made by the Aegean Exporters Union, 43,415 tons of products were sold for $158 million in the export season that started on September 30, 2020, until February 27, 2021.

Compared to the same period of the last season, exports increased by 2% on value basis, while Germany, France, and the USA were the top three markets for dried figs.

Birol Celep, President of the Aegean Dried Fruits and Products Exporters Association, whose opinions were given in the statement, stated that they did not experience a decline in export figures, although the harvest expectations of 90 thousand tons of dried figs did not come true.

Pointing out that there was an average increase of 5% in export prices on dollar basis, Celep said:

“The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, as exporters and producers, join forces to export more value-added dried figs. There is an increase in commodity prices around the world. The World Health Organization has included dried figs on the list of healthy foods. Dried figs are among the foods that strengthen the immune system in the human body. The current conditions increase the demand for our dried figs and we expect the increase in dried fig export prices to continue.”
