Mobile phone production in Turkiye increased by 767.43% in 2021 compared to the previous year, approximately 7 times, from 796 thousand to 6 million 904 thousand 630.
According to the information compiled from the Information Technologies and Communications Authority (BTK), 23 million 788 thousand 263 International Mobile Device Identity (IMEI) belonging to a total of 14 million 694 thousand 210 devices with electronic identity documents were registered in the Mobile Device Registration System (MCKS) in 2021.
While the aforementioned records consist of devices that are imported, manufactured or brought with passengers, when we look at the number of IMEIs, a total of 11 million 951 thousand 260 IMEI numbers were registered last year, and it was seen that the said records decreased by 43% compared to the previous year. Considering the number of devices, a 38.26% decrease was detected in the number of imported devices in 2021 compared to the previous year.
Demand for domestically produced mobile phones increased
The increase in quality and capacity in domestic mobile phone production, the fact that many global companies started production in Turkiye as of 2021, the increase in exchange rates and the high prices of imported products, the tendency to domestically manufactured mobile phones were also reflected in the figures. While a total of 1 million 120 thousand 129 IMEI numbers were registered in 2020 with manufacturer applications, this figure increased by 946.91% in 2021, reaching 11 million 726 thousand 750.
Considering the number of devices, it was determined that the number of devices manufactured in 2021 increased by 767.43% compared to the previous year, approximately 7 times, from 796 thousand to 6 million 904 thousand 630.
The number of devices registered with the passengers exceeded 110 thousand
In addition, the number of devices registered with passengers increased from 72 thousand 417 to 110 thousand 253 with an increase of 52.25% in the said period.
Of the devices brought with the passengers, 107 thousand 581 were registered through e-Government and 2 thousand 672 through the subscriber registration center.
The amount of IMEI registration fee collected from the phones in question was ₺1838 in 2020 and ₺2 thousand 6 in 2021. This year, the IMEI registration fee is applied as ₺2732 for the devices brought with the passengers.
