Global crude steel production increased by 2.2% annually in August

Global crude steel production reached 152.6 million tons in August, increasing by 2.2% compared to the same period last year.

World Steel Association (Worldsteel), headquartered in Brussels, announced crude steel production data for August.

Accordingly, global crude steel production increased by 2.2% in August 2023 compared to the same month last year, reaching 152.6 million tons.

During the said period, China’s production increased by 3.2% and reached 86.4 million tons, while Japan’s production decreased by 2.9% to 7.1 million tons.

In the same period, while Germany’s production decreased by 1% to 2.8 million tons, it was noteworthy that the production of the USA increased by 1.1% and reached 7 million tons.

According to the union’s data, Turkiye’s crude steel production decreased by 2.9% in August compared to the same period last year, falling to 2.8 million tons.

While Brazil’s crude steel production decreased by 5.9% to 2.7 million tons in August, it was estimated that Russia’s production increased by 8.9% to 6.4 million tons.

During the said period, India’s production increased by 17.4% to 11.9 million tons, while Iran’s production decreased by 24.1% to 1.6 million.

Global crude steel production increased by 0.2% in the January-August period of this year compared to the same period of the previous year, reaching 1 billion 256 million tons.
