In January 2024, Tat Gida, sold by Koc Holding to Memisoglu Tarim Urunleri, won a portion of the Turkish Ministry of Defense’s catering tender for 164.9 million Turkish lira. This marks a significant step in Memisoglu’s growth strategy in the ready-made meal category.
Key Details of the Agreement
Tat Gida (formerly known as Tat Konserve), announced in a statement to the Public Disclosure Platform (KAP) today that it has officially signed the contract with the Ministry of Defense. The contract, worth 164.9 million lira, is part of a tender opened on December 25, 2024.
According to the statement, “Shipments under this tender will begin in February.”
From Vehbi Koc’s Legacy to Memisoglu Ownership
Tat Gida, initially established as Tat Konserve on August 27, 1967, by Vehbi Koc in Mustafakemalpasa, Bursa, has undergone significant transformations over the years. The company rebranded as Tat Gida on November 15, 2013, and has since become a leading producer of tomato paste, ketchup, mayonnaise, tomato products, and canned vegetables.
With production facilities located in Bursa’s Mustafakemalpasa and Karacabey districts, as well as in Torbali, Izmir, Tat Gida’s ownership changed hands on January 8, 2024, when Koc Holding sold its shares to Memisoglu Tarim Urunleri (TAT Bakliyat).
Catering Growth Strategy
Memisoglu Tarim Urunleri’s acquisition of Tat Gida aligns with its strategic focus on expanding in the ready-made meal sector. Securing this contract with the Ministry of Defense underscores the company’s commitment to leveraging Tat Gida’s production capabilities to meet large-scale catering demands.
As shipments are set to commence in February, the collaboration represents a milestone for both Tat Gida and the Ministry of Defense in addressing catering needs.
