TAV Airports and Arcelik Partner for Green Energy with Solar Power Projects

TAV Airports and Arçelik are collaborating on a sustainable energy initiative by installing solar power plants (SPPs) at Milas-Bodrum Airport and Izmir Adnan Menderes Airport. The project will utilize Arçelik Energy Solutions’ solar energy systems to support renewable energy adoption in the aviation industry.

Solar Energy Systems to Power Airport Parking Areas

According to Arçelik’s statement, TAV Airports will install locally produced Arçelik solar energy systems and carport solar solutions at:

  • Milas-Bodrum Airport’s open parking areas
  • Izmir Adnan Menderes Airport’s covered parking roofs and open parking areas

The total solar power plant capacity will reach 12.53 MWp, with 21,081 Topcon technology solar panels installed. The project aims to generate approximately 19 million kWh of green electricity annually.

At Milas-Bodrum Airport, 11,280 solar panels, each with a 590Wp capacity, will be installed to generate around 10 million kWh of electricity per year. The installation at this site will be managed by Entek Elektrik.

At Izmir Adnan Menderes Airport, 9,801 solar panels, each with a 600Wp capacity, will be installed on covered parking roofs and open parking areas, contributing 5.88 MWp of solar energy capacity. This installation will be carried out by Solar Çatı Installation Services.

Reducing Carbon Emissions by 8,000 Tons Annually

Arçelik Türkiye General Manager Can Dinçer emphasized the environmental impact of the project, stating:

“This initiative will generate green electricity equivalent to the annual consumption of 5,000 households while preventing 8,000 tons of carbon emissions—comparable to the amount absorbed by 370,000 trees in a year. We believe this project will serve as a model for the industry.”

TAV Airports’ Carbon-Neutral Vision

TAV Airports CEO Serkan Kaptan reaffirmed the company’s commitment to sustainability, saying:

“We are working towards making all our airports carbon-neutral by 2030 and achieving net-zero emissions by 2050 at the latest.”

This collaboration between TAV Airports and Arçelik marks a significant step in Türkiye’s aviation sector toward renewable energy integration and sustainable operations.
