Card Payments in Turkiye Exceed ₺1 Trillion in February

The total amount of payments made with credit cards, debit cards and prepaid cards in February increased by 152% compared to the same period last year and reached ₺1.01 trillion.

Interbank Card Center (BKM) announced its data for February. Accordingly, as of February, the number of credit cards in Turkiye increased to 120.4 million, the number of debit cards to 191.2 million and the number of prepaid cards to 91.8 million.

Compared to February last year, there was an increase of 18% in the number of credit cards, 11% in the number of debit cards and 23% in the number of prepaid cards. The total number of cards increased by 15%, reaching 403.4 million.

The total amount of payments made with credit cards, debit cards and prepaid cards in February increased by 152% compared to the same period last year and reached ₺1.01 trillion. While ₺843.1 billion of the payments were made by credit cards, ₺150.3 billion were used by debit cards and ₺19 billion were prepaid cards.

The growth rate in payments was 166% in credit cards, 94% in debit cards and 184% in prepaid cards.

The total number of payments made with credit cards, debit cards and prepaid cards in February increased by 38% compared to the same period last year, reaching 1.36 billion. 763.3 million of the payments were made with credit cards, 491.1 million with debit cards, and 106.6 million with prepaid cards.

The growth rate in the number of payments compared to the same period last year was recorded as 41% for credit cards, 27% for debit cards and 79% for prepaid cards.

Online card payments approached ₺294 billion

Online card payments increased by 177% compared to the same period last year, approaching ₺294 billion. The share of online card payments in total was 26%.

While the number of online card payments increased by 39% to 203 million, the share of online card payments in total was 15%.

The number of contactless payments made with cards increased by 62% compared to the same period last year, reaching 856.9 million. The amount of contactless payments increased by 188% to ₺290.6 billion. In February, 3 out of every 4 card payments made in-store were made contactless.
