The assets of the banking sector reached ₺14.7 trillion

As of January, the total asset size of the Turkish banking sector increased by ₺341 billion 461 million compared to the end of 2022 and reached ₺14 trillion 688.9 billion.

The “Unconsolidated Main Indicators of the Turkish Banking Sector” report for the period of January 2023 was published by the Banking Regulation and Supervision Agency (BDDK).

According to the report, the asset size of the banking sector in January amounted to ₺14 trillion 688 billion 851 million. While the sector’s total assets increased by ₺341 billion 461 million compared to the end of 2022, its proportional equivalent was 2.4%.

Compared to the end of 2022 in January, loans, the largest asset item of the sector, increased by 3.5% to ₺7 trillion 849 billion 775 million, and the total securities increased by 4.3% to ₺2 trillion 473 billion 766 million. In this period, the NPL ratio of loans stood at 2.01%.

Deposit, which is the biggest source of funds among banks’ resources, increased by 3.2% in January compared to the end of 2022 and reached ₺9 trillion 147 billion 151 million.

In the same period, the total equity reached ₺1 trillion 418 billion 839 million with an increase of 0.9%. As of the end of January, the sector’s net profit for the period was ₺39 billion 320 million, and the capital adequacy standard ratio was 16.99%.
