Adil Pelister, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Istanbul Chemicals and Chemical Products Exporters’ Association (İKMİB), stated that with $2.3 billion in exports in February, the chemical sector maintained its position as Turkey’s second-largest exporting industry. According to a statement from İKMİB, Turkey’s total exports reached $21.1 billion in February, while the chemical industry accounted for $2.3 billion of that figure. The sector’s exports for the first two months of the year exceeded $4.5 billion.
In his remarks, Pelister emphasized that with $2.3 billion in exports in February, the sector retained its position as Turkey’s second-largest exporter, adding, “Our sector’s exports in the first two months surpassed $4.5 billion. With its 16 sub-sectors and thousands of products, the chemical industry has a broad structure and serves as a cornerstone of our industrial production chain by supplying raw materials, semi-finished, and finished goods to 27 different sub-sectors.”
GEOPOLITICAL RISKS PRESENT CHALLENGES
Highlighting the importance of the chemical sector’s role in supporting other industries with intermediate goods and raw materials in Turkey’s 3.6% economic growth in 2025, Pelister noted:
“On the other hand, geopolitical risks, wars, and uncertainties in our neighboring region are among the factors that may impact energy prices, logistics costs, and supply chains. We are closely monitoring developments and hope that the wars will end as soon as possible. Despite all challenges, we will continue to work with full determination to ensure the sustainable continuation of our country’s and our sector’s exports.”
