The exports of the ferrous and non-ferrous metals sector exceeded $11 billion in 9 months

The exports of the ferrous and non-ferrous metals sector increased by 26% in January-September 2022 compared to the same period of the previous year and reached $11.1 billion.

According to the statement of the Istanbul Ferrous and Non-Ferrous Metals Exporters’ Association (IDDMIB), exports of the ferrous and non-ferrous metals industry increased by 3.6% in September compared to the same month of the previous year and rose to $1.1 billion.

The 9-month exports of the sector increased by 26% compared to the same period of 2021 and reached $11.1 billion.

The share of the sector in Turkiye’s total monthly exports was 6%

In the sub-sector exports, the highest export was realized in the aluminum product group with $825 million. The aluminum sector was followed by iron and steel products with $329 million, metals with $230 million and copper product groups with $132 million.

Last month, the aluminum bar & profiles product group made the most exports to Germany, the country to which the ferrous and non-ferrous metals industry exports the most. The export of the aluminum bar & profiles product group increased by 72% to $496 million.

While the EU is the region to which the sector exports the most, exports to EU countries increased by 1.24% in September compared to the same month of the previous year and amounted to $629 million. Again in this period, Germany ranked first with $164 million among the countries to which the sector exports the most.

Most exports were made to Germany

In January-September 2022, the highest export was made to Germany with $1.6 billion . $843 million were exported to Italy in the second place and $714 million to the USA, which was in the third place.

IDDMIB Chairman of the Board Çetin Tecdelioglu, whose views were included in the statement, stated that they continue to increase in exports as the iron and non-ferrous sector.

Tecdelioglu stated that he continues to work intensively for the sector to reach its export targets and said, “As the sector, we continued our acceleration in our exports in this period as well. We are determined to carry our industry to the next level with our work at the point of export. As IDDMIB, we will continue our work at full speed. We will continue to contribute to both our industry and the Turkish economy.”
