The first green hydrogen plant of the Turkish industry is established in Balikesir

The cooperation protocol prepared for the green hydrogen plant planned to be established in Balıkesir was signed by the officials of GMKA, Enerjisa Uretim, Eti Maden, TUBITAK MAM and Aspilsan Energy. Prof. Dr. Ahmet Yozgatligil, Vice President of TUBITAK and Deputy Chairman of MAM, stated that the protocol in question is of great importance in Turkey and in the world.

A cooperation protocol was signed for Turkey’s first green hydrogen plant, which is planned to be established in Balikesir.

According to the statement made by the Southern Marmara Development Agency (GMKA), the cooperation protocol prepared for the “Green Hydrogen Plant” was signed by the authorities of GMKA, Enerjisa Uretim, Eti Maden, TUBITAK Marmara Research Center (MAM) and Aspilsan Energy.

Within the scope of the cooperation protocol, the production and use of green hydrogen, the alternative energy source with the greatest potential to replace fossil fuels in reducing carbon emissions with existing technologies on the way to 100% energy transformation, was started at the Bandirma Energy Base of Enerjisa Uretim.

In the statement, Deputy Minister of Industry and Technology Cetin Ali Donmez gave his speech at the ceremony and thanked all the organizations that embraced the project.

Noting that they attach great importance to cooperation and the culture of coming together, Donmez made the following assessments:

“We need to use this accumulation in the public sector together with the private sector, and we need to create good success stories from these. The perspective of the Ministry is to support concrete and reasonable projects as much as possible, and it is also possible to mobilize the Ministry’s resources so that the studies to be carried out in areas where a common vision has been determined by our institutions such as ‘Bandirma Energy Base’ will benefit SMEs, academia and entrepreneurs in Turkey.”

“IT IS IMPORTANT FOR TURKEY AND THE WORLD”

TUBITAK Vice President and MAM Deputy Chairman Prof. Dr. Ahmet Yozgatligil stated that the protocol in question is of great importance in Turkey and in the world, and talked about the importance of bringing the public and private sectors together.

South Marmara Development Agency Secretary General, Abdullah Power, stated that they are aware of the potential of the region in which they operate, and said, “We have done a lot of work on hydrogen, we have given a lot of thought to it. At this point, we are now able to talk about this business concretely, with the advantages of technology and the significant progress in the R&D studies carried out by our organizations.”

ETI MADEN WILL LAY THE FOUNDATION OF IMPORTANT FACILITIES THIS YEAR

Eti Maden Isletmeleri General Manager Serkan Keleser stated that they will provide significant added value thanks to the boron carbide facility that they will put into operation this year, and said that this year they will lay the foundations of the “ferro boron facility” and “the production facility for the production of lithium in ore”.

Noting that they will start working on the investment of “sodium boron hydride production”, which they attach great importance to, Keleser said, “Boron has great advantages in hydrogen as well, and by using this advantage, we will focus on the production of solid boron-hydrogen compounds with high added value. In this regard, Eti Maden will contribute to the development of this cooperation by giving its best support.”

Ferhat Ozsoy, General Manager of Aspilsan Energy, stated that it is very important for them to be in this protocol and said, “The fact that companies in Turkey have an initiative in this direction is the main driving force. While developments in the world continue on hydrogen, Turkey needs to speed up its work on this issue.”

“TURKEY HAS SIGNIFICANT POTENTIAL ON HYDROGEN”

Enerjisa Production Chief Executive (CEO), Ihsan Erbil Baycol, stated that Turkey has a significant potential in hydrogen and that it is necessary to act quickly and lead the way in this regard.

South Marmara Development Agency-Energy Manager Mehmet Volkan Duman gave information about hybrid systems in his presentation at the ceremony. Duman touched upon Turkey’s energy transformation process and the potential of new energy systems that will be the first for the country.

Explaining that Southern Marmara is the most suitable region for the attempts to revive the hydrogen economy, Duman stated that the region hosts Turkey’s most efficient renewable energy power plants.
