Kanka.host: Application for earthquake victims who need a place to stay and those who want to share their homes with them

Kanka.host cooperates with the AFS Volunteers Association and operates free of charge to help our citizens who were affected by the earthquake and in need of shelter, and supporters who want to share their homes voluntarily.

Unfortunately, after the two major earthquakes we experienced on February 6, the loss of life continues to increase. However, various difficulties began to arise for our citizens who survived the earthquake. The most important of these is undoubtedly the need for shelter. While earthquake survivors have to find a place to stay in such a cold period, we, as a country, try to do our best so that they can settle in the safest places. In this context, many platforms are being implemented. We have even compiled some of these platforms for you in our remote assistance guide for earthquake victims.

A similar platform, kanka.host, also operates with its application in both the App Store and Play Store. In fact, kanka.host was launched in 2022 by AFS Volunteers Betigul Erol and Alara Er as an intermediary to bring together students, travelers and expats who want to rent a room with people looking for a roommate. However, with the need for shelter of earthquake victims, the application started to serve for a social purpose.

After the earthquake disaster on February 6, Kanka.host cooperates with the AFS Volunteers Association and operates free of charge to reach our citizens who were affected by the earthquake and who need shelter, and supporters who want to share their homes voluntarily.

In order to use Kanka.host, you first need to enter the verification code sent to your phone number, then you can create a membership with your Google account. First of all, let’s explain the process for those who want to open their home. For earthquake victims, in addition to basic information, criminal record and residence information should be given in the volunteer form. Apart from this, there are also questions such as how many people can stay in the house and how long the visitors can stay. There are also two options for the house, the empty house and the option “I can share my house voluntarily”. In other words, if you have an empty house, you can open it to earthquake victims.

If you are an earthquake victim, you need to fill out the shelter form for earthquake victims. There are also basic questions in this form, but at the same time, it is requested to add a criminal record. In the form, there are questions such as the number of people who need to stay in the same household, the information of individuals with health problems, the cities they can go to, the ages of people who need shelter, the date of departure and transportation support.

After these forms are filled, the platform matches people and households.

It should also be noted that Kanka.host is very active on Instagram and its team is constantly supporting it in this process.

The application can be downloaded from Google Play and App Store.
