In Turkiye, the number of salaried employees in the “information and communication” sector reached approximately 290,911 as of March, hitting an all-time high.
According to data compiled by the AA correspondent from the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK), the number of salaried employees in the industry, construction, and trade-service sectors reached a record high of 15,225,128 in March. This figure was 14,839,534 in the same period last year.
Looking at the sub-distribution of salaried employees in the country, it is observed that the number of salaried employees in the “information and communication” sector has been steadily increasing in recent months.
Closing last year with an employment figure of 289,599, the sector reached 290,165 employees in the first month of this year.
Sector employment was 290,270 in February and rose to an all-time high of 290,991 in March.
“Employment growth in the sector is important for the country’s economy” Ismet Demirkol, founder of Pariterium Consulting, emphasized the importance of technology and digitalization being on Turkey’s agenda, as it is worldwide.
Demirkol stated that the emphasis on technological developments has led to productivity increases in many areas, especially the economy. He said, “The increase in employment in the information and communication sector is important for the country’s economy. I expect employment in the sector to continue growing in the future in line with increasing needs.”
Demirkol noted that the sector should be further supported to provide the skilled workforce needed for digital transformation and technology, which will help Turkey join the ranks of developed countries.
He highlighted the need to increase existing fund and ecosystem support and stated that subjects like software and coding should be included in the education curriculum.
