The number of electric cars in Turkiye increased by 132% in one year

While the countdown continues for the sale of Turkiye’s car, Togg, the number of electric cars in the country continues to increase. The number of electric cars in Turkiye increased by 132.2% last year compared to the previous year and reached 14 thousand 552.

According to the information compiled by the AA correspondent from the data of the Turkish Statistical Institute, 70.1% of the 566 thousand 280 cars registered to traffic in Turkiye last year were registered as gasoline, 18% diesel, 8.5% hybrid, 2% LPG and 1.4% electric.

As of the end of December 2022, 36.9% of the 14 million 269 thousand 352 cars registered to the traffic were diesel, 35.1% LPG, 26.8% gasoline, 0.9% hybrid and 0.1% electric.

Compared to the previous year, there was an increase in the number of cars in all fuel types last year. When the increases were evaluated, the rise in electric cars drew attention.

While the number of electric cars in the country was 952 5 years ago, it was calculated as 14 thousand 552 last year. In this period, an increase of 1428.6% occurred. In 2021, the number of electric cars was recorded as 6 thousand 267. Last year, the number of electric cars increased by 132.2% compared to the previous year. With the start of sales of Turkiye’s car Togg, these figures are expected to increase even more.

The number of hybrid cars increased by 55.3%

In addition to electric vehicles, the increase in hybrid fuel cars also drew attention. While the number of hybrid cars was 4,415 5 years ago, this figure has increased to 134,662 as of the end of last year. Thus, the number of hybrid cars increased by 2 thousand 950.1% in 5 years. The number of hybrid cars was recorded as 86 thousand 682 in 2021. Compared to the previous year, the number of hybrid cars increased by 55.35% last year.

The increase in the number of gasoline, diesel and LPG cars in the last 5 years was limited. The number of gasoline-powered cars increased by 23.55% in 5 years, from 3 million 89 thousand 626 to 3 million 817 thousand 104.

In the said period, an increase was observed in the number of diesel cars. The number of diesel cars rose by about 15.2%. The number of these cars, which was 4 million 568 thousand 665 in 2018, was calculated as 5 million 261 thousand 876 last year.

The number of cars using LPG increased by 6.6% in 5 years and reached 5 million 5 thousand 563 from 4 million 695 thousand 717.
