The number of mobile subscribers in Turkey approached 83.5 million

While the prevalence of mobile subscribers in Turkey reached almost 100% with 83.5 million subscribers, more than 77 million of these were 4.5G service recipients.

The “Turkish Electronic Communications Industry Quarterly Market Data Report” prepared for the first quarter of this year by the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure Information Technologies and Communications Authority (BTK) has been published.

According to the report, one of the sectors with the highest growth during the new type of coronavirus (Covid-19) epidemic was electronic communications.

While consumers’ demand for many types of services, especially broadband internet, increased, operators made an effort to provide better quality service without interrupting their investments.

Operator revenues increased by more than 15% last year, while investments nearly doubled that rate. The request was met without any problems. In the first quarter of this year, growth in revenues and investments continued.

In the first quarter of the year, operator revenues increased by more than 19% compared to the same period last year. Investments also increased by 13% in the same period.

FIBER INFRASTRUCTURE INVESTMENTS GROW BY 10%

Fiber infrastructure investments, which are critical for digitalization and the spread of new-generation services, grew by nearly 10% compared to the same period of the previous year.

Mobile subscriber prevalence reached almost 100% with 83.5 million subscribers. More than 77 million of these subscribers were 4.5G service recipients.

The number of machine-to-machine communication (M2M) subscribers also increased, reaching 6.5 million as of the first quarter of the year.

The share of postpaid subscribers as the subscriber profile, which continues to increase every quarter, rose to 66.3% in the first quarter of this year. The number of mobile numbers ported exceeded 150 million in total as of the end of March, once again demonstrating the size of the application.

NUMBER OF BROADBAND INTERNET SUBSCRIBERS HAS REACHED 83.9 MILLION

While many daily activities could be done over the internet during the epidemic period, this increased the number of mobile and fixed internet subscribers and their usage amounts.

As of the first quarter of the year, the number of broadband internet subscribers reached 83.9 million in total, of which 17.1 million were fixed and 66.8 million were mobile.

Compared to the first quarter of 2020, when the epidemic started, the annual increase in the number of internet subscribers exceeded 8%.

In terms of technologies, the biggest increase was seen in “Fiber to the Home” subscription with 36% annually. This situation was recorded as an important data in terms of showing the widespread use of fiber in Turkey.

In terms of data usage, monthly usage of fixed subscribers exceeded 197 gigabytes in the first quarter of the year, while it was 9.8 gigabytes on average on mobile side and 11.1 gigabytes in 4.5G.
